During the Second World War, RAF Thornaby played an important role in photographic reconnaissance, with pilots flying dangerous missions to capture vital intelligence from the skies.
The aircraft and crews based at Thornaby contributed to operations across Europe, with their work helping to provide crucial information during the war.
It’s another fascinating chapter in Thornaby’s history and a reminder of the people who once served from our local RAF station.
