About Us

Thornaby Town Council was created in 1995 to represent the people of Thornaby providing both a voice for the town and also a range of local services. All Councillors are volunteers and are elected for a four year term. Thornaby Town Council has relatively few responsibilities as far as public property is concerned, but we take our responsibilities seriously and try to do our best for you within the resources available to us. All Council meetings are held every four weeks unless otherwise advertised.  Issues that would affect the community are discussed and action points agreed. Planning applications are scrutinised to ensure they fall within the realms of the Local Plan.
We organise various events throughout the year with the Thornaby Show being ever popular. We also hold the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Battle of Britain service, where we remember the fallenwhich are always well attended by veterans and members of the public wishing to show their respect. Our final event of the year is the Carols Around the Lamps where everyone can come and join us to sing carols old and new.

The Community Chest Fund is a grant scheme providing financial support for community organisations. Here at Thornaby Town Council we recognise and support the valuable contribution made by the voluntary sector to the well-being of the community. Anyone wishing to apply for a grant should visit Grant Applications To view our General Donations Policy please go to the Policies page.
In November 2012 the council were successful in purchasing Thornaby Town Hall and 3-9 Mandale Road. On March 28th 2013 the transfer of 3-9 Mandale Road to Green Lane Development was finalised securing financial benefit to be invested into the restoration project.
The council remain committed to maintaining the town hall in all its glory, for all the residents in Thornaby now and for years to come.
