Thornaby Town Council holds several events throughout the year. See the diary page for event dates.
The Annual Thornaby Show
Annual Thornaby Show is held on the Harold Wilson Field on the first Sunday in September.
The show has grown in strength every year with up to 10,000 people attending. There is something for everyone including fairground rides and centre circle entertainers for example a circus act and gymnastic, falconry and dog displays. Around the centre ring are marquees filled with lots of stalls all run by local people. One of the big attractions is the Horticultural Tent with locally grown flowers and vegetables on show. There are also Home craft and Handicraft displays.
Please see Events Diary page for more information and stall application form. You can also download a full category list for exhibits.
Battle of Britain Service:
Every year veterans, councillors and local people gather around the Airmen’s Statue on Thornaby Road for a short service to remember those who fought in the Battle of Britain between July and September 1940. The service also includes the laying of wreaths before moving along to Thornaby Cemetery where another short service is held before placing small crosses on all the war graves.
Remembrance Sunday Parade:
Once again another opportunity to remember those who have fought in the past and present wars for our Queen and country.
The parade starts from the Ex-Service Club in Queen’s Avenue on to Westbury Street then down Langley Avenue to St. Luke’s Church on Acklam Road for the service. The service then moves on to the Cenotaph for the laying of wreaths. The parade makes its way back to the Ex-Service Club where the Mayor of Thornaby and the Deputy Mayor of Stockton take the salute.
Christmas Card Competition:
All the local schools are invited to take part. The three winning entries are then used as official Thornaby Town Council Christmas Cards.
Christmas Carol Concert:
This is held in St. Paul’s Church on Thornaby Road in December. This is a great way for our schools to show people how good their choirs are. There is nothing more cheerful to get you in the mood for Christmas as when you hear children sing.
